1. Congress Increases NIH Salary Cap

The dust has settled from the FY 2000 appropriations battles, and the NIH salary cap has been set at Executive Level II, currently $136,700, according to the Council on Governmental Relations (COGR). This is an increase from the previous cap which was Executive Level III ($125,900). The House version of the DHHS appropriations bill at one point had no cap, but once the negotiations started, they settled with the Senate on Executive Level II. The new cap of $136,700 applies to NIH awards made from FY 2000 funds.
