28. American Cancer Society/Florida Division - Research Grants
The American Cancer Society, Florida Division, invites applications for research grants. The Society offers three types of grants:
Starter Grants are awarded to attract new investigators into cancer research. They are available to investigators who are beginning their careers as independent researchers, have recently assumed positions in Florida institutions, and have not received major financial support at the national level (NIH, NSF, ACS, etc.).
Pilot Grants are available to investigators at all career stages. Projects should depart significantly in theme and aims from ongoing, funded projects of the Principal Investigator (PI). Projects that aim to translate results of basic research to the clinical setting are particularly encouraged by the Division.
Interim Grants are awarded to established investigators whose research support has been temporarily disrupted. Such grants may be used to prevent major dislocation of research personnel and serious delay of research projects in progress.
Topics of investigation have included, but need not be limited to, the following:
-
molecular genetics, cell biology, physiology and biochemistry of cancer;
-
mechanisms of cancer induction and promotion;
-
immune systems and intrinsic body defense mechanisms;
-
identification of drug targets and lead compounds;
-
improvements in cancer diagnosis and treatment regimes;
-
psycho-social studies for improving patient and care-giver assistance.
Eligible applicants are independent researchers employed at all educational or other non-profit institutions in the State of Florida unless the PI has received funding from the Florida Division within the last three years.
Awards are a maximum of $25,000 per annum, or a maximum of $50,000 for a two year award. Awards will become effective June 1, 2000.
Applications are due at the ACF, Florida Division office, on or before JANUARY 15, 2000.
