29. Robert Wood Johnson Foundation - Substance Abuse Policy Research Program - Round V
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) requests proposals for Round V of the Substance Abuse Policy Research Program (SAPRP). This program is intended to identify and assess policies that can reduce the harm caused by substance abuse; to analyze their development, feasibility, effectiveness, and likely consequences; and to help ensure that the understanding gained through these analyses will be used by decision makers in the public and private sector.
Examples of types of issues that would be of interest under the program include the following:
-
effects of policies to control the availability and accessibility of tobacco, alcohol, or illegal drugs;
-
barriers and effective strategies to enforcement of tobacco and alcohol control policies and laws;
-
intended and unintended consequences of changes in regulating tobacco, alcohol, or illegal drug policies;
-
effects of policies to legalize medicinal uses of marijuana;
-
effect of societal attitudes and norms on tobacco, alcohol, and/or illegal drugs;
-
the effects of substance abuse treatment policies within organized health care systems;
-
the effects of harm reduction policies;
-
analyses of policies that affect substance abuse and the criminal justice system;
-
policy studies on substance abuse and social class, ethnicity, or gender;
-
nature and effects of policies to control or support marketing, advertising, media (including the Internet), and counter-advertising of tobacco and alcohol to underage users.
The program encourages experts in public health, law, political science, medicine, sociology, criminal justice, economics and other behavioral and policy sciences to address these issues.
