31. Pfizer/WHR - Scholars Grants for Faculty Development in Women's Health

Pfizer Women's Health and the Society for Women's Health Research (WHR) is pleased to announce its second competition in the Pfizer/WHR Scholars Grants for Faculty Development in Women's Health. This competition reflects the burgeoning need for research in the basic biology of serious diseases that affect women and is consistent with newer models of women's health that include and look beyond reproduction.

Applicants must demonstrate a research interest in biological mechanisms of disease in women in one of the following therapeutic areas:

• cardiovascular disease;
• mental health;
• reproductive physiology (which may include effects of sex hormones on reproductive and non-reproductive physiology).

This interest may be demonstrated through collaboration in research and publication in a peer reviewed journal or acceptance of abstract based upon individual or collaborative research for a presentation at a national meeting.

Three grants of $65,000 per year for three years will be awarded. Eligible applicants must have completed clinical training and have an M.D. or D.O. degree with 12 years or less of professional experience in an area of specialty as of July 2000. They must have a faculty appointment below the level of associate professor at a U.S. medical school and be a citizen or lawfully admitted permanent resident of the United States.

A medical school may submit one applications from each of the above mentioned designated areas. However, Pfizer confers only one award per institution in a given competition. For internal UF coordination, interested candidates must contact Mr. Peter Pevonka, Associate Dean for Research, College of Medicine, 392-5398, no later than DECEMBER 29, 1999. Applications are due at Pfizer/WHR on or before JANUARY 17, 2000.
