41. The American Academy in Berlin - The Berlin Prize Fellowships

The American Academy in Berlin invites applications to its Berlin Prize Fellowships for advanced study in the arts, culture and public affairs in the 2000-2001 academic year. The Academy is an institute for advanced study and occupies a 40-room villa, the Hans Arnhold Center in the Wannsee section of Berlin.

The academy invites applications (and nominations) from American scholars and professionals in academic disciplines or fields of practice including the arts and culture, architecture, history, philosophy, public policy, law and society, music, journalism, film and others who will benefit from a residential fellowship in Berlin. Appointments are for U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States who are typically university faculty members, artists or practicing professionals at early, mid-career or senior levels of achievement.

Benefits include a monthly stipend, round trip airfare, and housing and meals at the villa. Appointments are for one or two semesters and open to university faculty members and practicing professionals with a record of achievement, whether at early, mid-career or senior levels. Both specialists on German topics and other scholars and practitioners who want to use resources in Berlin and its environs to enhance their knowledge through research or other intellectual projects are welcome to apply. The Academy especially encourages persons on sabbatical or study leave from their home institutions and organizations. Stipends range from $15,000 - $25,000 per semester (depending on one's level of attainment).

Inquiries and proposals are welcome immediately, with final applications due FEBRUARY 1, 2000.
