48. National Association of Broadcasters - Research Grants
The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) offers grants for research in broadcasting, especially for research on economic, business, social, or policy issues of importance to the U.S. commercial broadcast industry. The goal is to make high quality academic research available to industry practitioners as well as other academics. The competition is open to all academic personnel.
Topics listed below typify the kinds of issues most frequently raised in discussions among broadcast managers; however proposals may include any of a variety of other issues.

Impact of new ownership regulations on radio industry

Internet users and content providers

Provision and effectiveness of local news programs

Public use of parental notification and program ratings

Commercial advertising effectiveness or recall studies

Changing relationships between networks and local stations

Analysis of audience response to digital television

Impact of new technologies (digital radio, DTV/HDTV, DBS, Internet/Web, wireless communications, multimedia)

Training tomorrow's broadcasters

Importance of television and radio advertising on local and national economies
There is a total of $25,000 in available funds. NAB typically awards four to six grants of up to $5,000 each; however, more than $5,000 can be awarded if the project merits additional funds. Monies are not to be used for overhead or benefits. Applications must be received no later than JANUARY 28, 2000.
